  • Glyptodon was a genus of large, Heavily armored mammals of the subfamily Glyotontinae.
  • Glyptodon wass relatives of Armadillos – that lived during the Pleistcene epoch.
  • Body – Rounded Bony Shell and Squat Limbs. It superficially resemled a turtle.
  • Glyptodon, and most of the American megafauna, became extinct by about 10,000 years ago.
  • It is believed that humans hunted these animals and used their bony shells as shelters during inclement weather.
  • Glyptodon, genus of extinct giant mammals related to modern armadillos and found as fossils in deposits in North and South America dating from the Pliocene and Pleistocene epochs (5.3 million to 11,700 years ago).
