• Linke Hofmann Busch, or LHB coaches is a Indian Railway Passenger Coaches which have been developed by Linke Hofmann Busch of Germany and mostly produced by Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala, India.
• In 1999, the Indian Railway imported these coaches from Germany first.
• After the successful trial of LHB coaches, the Indian Railway added these coaches to its fleet.
• LHB coaches have been used since 2000 on the Broad Gauge line network.
• ICF coaches were not as advanced as compared to LHB coaches.
• 24 air-conditioned coaches were initially imported from Germany for use in the Shatabdi Express, after which the rail coach factory started manufacturing after technology transfer.
• LHB coaches were designed for an operating speed up to 160 km/h, but they could go up to a maximum of 200km/h. However, LHB coaches have been tested up to 18km/h.
• The length of LHB coaches is 3.24 m wide and 23.54 m long, which means a higher passenger capacity as compared to ICF coaches.
• LHB coaches are made of stainless steel, and the interiors are made of aluminum.
• Due to these reasons, LHB coaches are lighter than ICF and other conventional rail coaches.
• Modular interiors that integrate lighting into the ceiling and luggage racks with wider windows.
• LHB Coaches also has an advanced pneumatic disc brake system for efficient advanced braking at higher speeds.
• Each LHB coach costs between 1.5 crore and 2 crore Indian rupees, and the power car, which houses a generator, costs approx. 3 crore Indian rupees.
• Conventional coach noise levels are 100 dB or decibels, whereas LHB coach noise levels are less than 60 dB or decibels.
• As compared to conventional rakes The improved suspension system of these LHB coaches ensures more riding comfort for the passengers.
• Indian Railways declared in 2016 that all ICF coaches would be replaced by these LHB coaches.
• The air conditioning systems of LHB coaches have higher capacity as compared to conventional ICF coaches.
• Which is controlled by a microprocessor.
• These LHB coaches have a more intelligent temperature control system, which gives passengers better comfort than ICF coaches during the summer, rainy, and winter seasons.
• These coaches are now used in the fastest superfast premium trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Duronto trains.
• Gradually, it will be used in all the trains of the Indian Railway.
